As a Houston proposal photographer, no moment makes my heart pound quite like capturing a proposal. The anticipation is electric. There’s the nervous pacing, the secret texts from the soon-to-be fiancé, and the constant checking of the weather forecast (because Houston likes to keep us on our toes). Then comes the moment of surprise, the tears, and the overwhelming joy as two people begin the next chapter of their story. 

Clayton and Claire’s story began right at Rice University as students, so it was only fitting that Clayton chose it as the perfect location to propose to Claire. Plus, with its historic architecture, sprawling oak trees, and charming pathways, Rice University is a gorgeous backdrop for proposals and engagement portraits. It was such an honor to document this unforgettable moment as they journey together toward marriage!

Will you pick the best location for a proposal? 

When planning a proposal, picking the right location is essential and I help people think through every detail from the best lighting to where to stand and how the proposal itself will flow. In fact, every proposal session includes a dedicated logistics call where we will walk through the moment together. I’ve found that when my clients know the plan, they are free to actually be present in the moment, instead of stressing over the details.

How do you, as a photographer, stay hidden and not tip off the partner about the proposal? 

Bushes, trees, columns, and long camera lenses allow me to capture the proposal up close while still being able to stay out of sight. And one of my favorite moments is revealing myself and being able to be the first to congratulate you. During our logistics call we will map out where I will be positioned so everything comes together for the best possible photos.

Absolutely! I understand this moment is one you will want to share as soon as possible with as many people as possible. Included in all my proposal collections 5-10 images shared the night of the proposal!
